NABIS is the National Ballistics Intelligence Service:
“NABIS provides fast-time intelligence linked to the criminal use of firearms, linking firearms incidents across the UK to help develop a national understanding of the use, supply, importation and manufacture of illegal firearms.”
The NABIS Forensic Case Management System
At Bluestar we are proud to be the chosen software development partner for the NABIS Forensic Case Management System (FCMS). The project leverages our extensive experience gained at the national level, delivering solutions like the National Footwear Database and National Injuries Database. We say ‘national acumen, local agility, tailored fit’! The NABIS FCMS project began in early 2025 and after a first successful pilot release it continues to build new capabilities. The service is scheduled for full go-live in Spring 2026.

Here’s what our project sponsor says
“Our partnership with Bluestar Corvus in developing the NABIS Case Management System has exemplified effective collaboration and technical excellence. Through Bluestar’s innovative solutions and our shared commitment to operational improvement we have delivered a system that enhances efficiency, transparency, and case oversight. This successful collaboration stands out as a model for how technology and team work can drive meaningful organisational advancement.”
DCS Peter Henrick – Head of NABIS | National Ballistics Intelligence Service
The Bluestar NABIS FCMS gives firearms forensic specialists and their police customers the platform they need to manage their forensic cases including:
- recording examinations and microscopical findings of submitted material
- collaboration and review of work – peer reviews including ‘blind’ reviews
- aiding the report-writing process
- overall management of team workflow and efficiency – saving time, while fostering consistent, high-quality deliverables
The solution includes management information support, full audit, flexible and configurable security, and an intuitive ‘drag and drop’ approach to report-generation. NABIS FCMS also helps NABIS to uphold vital evidential continuity and adherence to SLAs with their police customers.
The following architectural block diagram gives a summary of some of NABIS FCMS’s capabilities:

Underpinned by Case4 workflow
Under the bonnet, the NABIS FCMS is driven by our lightweight, configurable workflow engine Case4, which also underpins our Victim Care solution. Case4 lets us closely match our customers’ working practices, producing solutions with a ‘tailored fit’ for their needs.
Note: all screenshots use mock-up or test data, but are in close alignment with the production solution.

NABIS FCMS represents another success in our continued presence on the national policing software stage. Like the majority of our application solutions, NABIS FCMS is built on our Corvus platform, supporting strong quality standards, flexible configuration, security, resilience and more.
