Modern policing needs mobile solutions that are flexible, feature-rich and intuitive. And frontline officers want more than forms and lookups. They want intelligent mobile solutions that deliver the right information rapidly with a minimum of fuss. From savvy profiling of data that aids decisions, to reducing administrative effort when capturing new data, the mobile sphere is a uniquely demanding environment.

Our mobile solutions follow the principle of specific design. They aren’t simply reduced versions of desktop products. We build for the device itself, by maximising location awareness and carefully presenting the most important information that each officer needs to know. Our mobile solutions are underpinned by the Corvus Operational Data Store and Single Enterprise View – the superset combination of data warehouse and operational database that combines data from across the organisation – from RMS to CAD/C&C to HR – and external partner data. The following diagram gives an idea of the wealth of data available to the officer.

Our mobile solutions are fully integrated with their desktop equivalents, so information is exchanged seamlessly, and we build the same solution for Android and iOS.

Under the bonnet – The Forms Engine

From Intel Reports to Vulnerable Persons Assessments, police mobile solutions need to make a wide range of submissions relating to a variety of events and information, and force-specific requirements are the norm. We therefore built our ‘forms engine’ that allows new forms or amendments to be incorporated into the mobile environment extremely quickly, without a client software update. Of course, all of the forms can access the built-in Corvus features which exploit both the power of the device and the value of the Corvus data store.

Feature rich, as standard

We let the device tell us where the location is, and our mobile solutions are linked to the Corvus Single Enterprise View too, so frequently there is no need to re-key a known person’s details or location details. And voice-to-text recognition offers a real incentive for use of the device compared to the desktop, saving more time. We use this for the Officer Logbook function. The following example screenshots give a taster of the breadth and depth of information at the officer’s fingertips. All screenshots use test data.

Briefing, Tasking and Situational Awareness

The Corvus Mobile platform ensures real-time updates to the officer based upon their current (or proposed) location including:

The actual mix of information is refined by job role and access privileges. Perhaps the most valuable feature is represented by the integration with our core Briefing and Neighbourhood Profiles solutions, with related support for Section 60 operations. This means that areas, tasks and notifications can be defined and the officer alerted on their device when they are entering the locality. The result is improved confidence to enact Section 60 powers, and improved officer availability by reducing travel time between activities.

Cell Allocation Management System (CAMS)

Save time and reduce risks, from arrest to booking-in. A smart addition to the Corvus Mobile platform, CAMS offers arresting officers time-savings and risk-reduction, right up to booking-in at the custody suite. By answering a few quick questions, the arresting officer is directed to the right custody suite, who are also made aware of the inbound arrest. CAMS takes into account travel time, specialist equipment, predicted cell availability and more…

Vulnerability Assessments (VPA)

Vulnerability and safeguarding are responsibilities shared with partner agencies, but it is often a Police officer who makes the first contact. Vulnerability assessments are supported and optimised through the mobile app, saving time for the visiting by removing repeat questions and pre-populating forms with known data. VPA helps to maximise officer availability and reduces the administrative burden of referrals…

Existing customers have assessed significant savings when using the mobile platform with Corvus. In addition to the financial and time savings, the mobile application offers a unique capability in being able to automatically deliver content based on location and job role, with with geo-spatial alerting and notifications to ensure that officers on patrol are supported with the delivery of the latest information available. Examples include the ability to notify officers of the address of a wanted person or the presence of a patrol priority location.

A number of extended options are available for submitting information, e.g. stop search, intelligence, risk assessments, etc.
